Hard-charging, epic style, solid contest results, it’s all happening for Tyde Hill. A sixth-grader at Shorecliffs Middle School, Tyde has been putting the time in the water, and it’s all coming together for the grom.

Clinching the overall season ratings for division two of the Scholastic Surf Series, at only 12 years young, he’s quickly learning when it comes to competitive success that consistency is key. Fresh off a sixth-place finish at the WSA event at Salt Creek last weekend, he also came on strong with a big performance in flexing conditions in Huntington Beach, where he finished in the runner-up spot.

“Super-smooth style and super strong for his age,” said Lucas Taub, Tyde’s surf coach. “He throws down big hammers, is an old soul and a great kid.”

When not frequenting South Orange County’s premier lineups, you’ll probably find Tyde skating, fishing, jamming the tunes and working on his aim with his new airsoft gun.

Chasing dreams, turning visions into reality (to borrow a line from the late, great Bob Marley), the passion, the commitment, the work ethic and the love for surfing – it’s all there for Tyde. No doubt that he’ll be at the top of the game before we know it.
